Is it true that everyone has to change their old-fashioned driving licence for a new photo version? If so, when does (or did) this come into effect, and what is the penalty if you fail to do so?
PS: You can choose to get a photocard licence. (Some people find them advantageous for ID purposes, such as when travelling without a passport on easyJet's domestic flights):

there WAS a news article a month or so back that people of my age who did not renew their licences at 65 or 105 or whatever the age was ....
would incur a penalty fine of a few hundred I think
obviously if they were still driving.
and the renewed licence would have to be a new one
