Why Or Why Not Do You Believe Lawyers Are Important For A Society To Function?

Why is it making you pout, malzahno.?

There has to be someone you can go to for legal expertise when you want your rights protected, or whatever. They only cease to be needed if living in a smaller society when everyone can get together and use common sense to say what it right or wrong. As society grows it has to rely on laws and their definitions and how they are interpreted. Someone then needs to know all that to advise.

Presumably this is for A level law and I believe your tutors will be interested in your views not a conglomeration of the views of others, I wish you every success, law can be very competitive if you decide to make it your career.

Daisy, most lawyers will have had at least 6 years of study and experience and are in one of the most regulated and competitive careers and both branches of the legal profession can be sued for professional negligence. If you are not satisfied with the bill from your Solicitor you can apply to have the amount payable assessed by the court. If you challenge a bill this will normally be taken as a complaint meaning no charges can be made for dealing with the matter and do remember the Solicitor does not usually receive what you are charged, there are many expensive overheads to be taken into account.

Lawyers serve so purpose whatsoever. They add nothing, by definition they do nothing that you cannot do yourself. However they become necessary when one side has one and the other does not.

If lawyers were not needed then there wouldn't be so many of them.

Even if someone could do something themselves, it does not always mean it is a good idea for them too.

They study long and hard, by and large work hard over long hours acquiring specialist skills and have a lot of liability hanging over them. As Tony says, it is a highly regulated profession.

The term lawyer is incredibly wide and encompasses so many different kinds of lawyer.

Lawyers have access, clout, where the regular person may not have. Some lawyers could even pull the right strings or grease the right palm if or when necessary.

So I serve no purpose whatsoever Tora? They do nothing you can't do yourself? I am so pleased I spent 6 years in study and a year's pupillage to get where I am. I only hope you don't ever have to appear in the Chancery Division unrepresented and have to draft a skeleton argument which will impress a High Court Judge. I also hope you've read the hours I've spent giving free (yes FREE) legal advice on here.

Presumably I can read a DIY guide in plumbing or electricity and do all that stuff myself. Hey lets ditch any trade and profession since there is no need.......

I'm not going to get on Society's case because she is right when she implies there are some damn dodgy ones. Those are ostracised by the profession. For my part I prefer to represent my clients with integrity, with honour and at a good price. (I always give a fees quote in advance and NEVER exceed that quote).

I am sorry that some people have had a poor experience. But hey, we've all had bad experiences with ALL types of tradesmen/professionals.
