I had 20 medals engraved with a small shop. When I got them home I realised that 3 of them had mistakes on them. The coins cost 350p to make and the engraving cost 350p. This is really annoying me. What should I ask from the guy who did it?

What exactly do you want him to do? As long as he rectifies the mistakes, I can't see a problem.

Or are you saying that they now won't be ready in time for your little event?
When you instructed the engraver a contract was formed under the Sale of goods act 1979 as amended. One of your statutory rights is that the items must be suitable for the purpose intended which clearly some are not. Your remedy is to have them engraved correctly charging the engraver for any costs you incur, including a sum in compensation if this would cause you to not be ready for the event. If the engraver refuses to compensate you the option is the County Court, be sure to be able to show how you arrived at the compensation amount and ensure it is reasonable.
I would guess part of what needs to be established is whether the requirement was clear. But if a correction can be made maybe it's not necessary to get 'heavy' about it.
Maybe he's not up to scratch!
