Under the Labour administration roughly one prisoner a week was let out of prison by mistake. Under the Coalition, 140 have recently been freed in error.
At the time Tory MP Dominic Grieve blamed the cock-ups as a direct consequence of Labour's incompetent mismanagement of the justice system.
Can we assume then that the latest bungles are down to Coalition incompetence?
Perhaps Mr Grieve, now the Attorney General, can tell us.
Under Labour one prisoner a week. Three years of coalition government - 52 weeks in a year - 140 prisoners released in error. Slightly less then, or am I missing something?
Again, no argument. That tendency - for a few swing voters to make a huge difference - is of course exaggerated by low turnout, which is a direct consequence of cynicism and voter apathy, which themselves are heavily influenced by how the public view our politicians. And of course our current first past the post system helps to keep this situation as it is...
As usual this OPer posts in News with no reference/link to a story whatsoever,
maybe the thread would have been better titled,
"If the Coalition can do it, why couldn't Labour?"
sir.prize might be able to confirm the source for the story; I did a keyword search 140 prisoners freed in error and it returned just one recent article from the Sun, which is where I assumed Sir.Prize has sourced the story;
