the company that i work for frequently asking all of the work force both staff and shopfloor workers for updates on there emei numbers to there phones for security reasons
i am sure that i read somewhere it was against the data protections act to give it out as it is a number that issued by the phone contract or network provider to yourself and cannot be given out to company or anyone else sekking it without your permission
am i right or not

One poster reckons that it could be used maliciously, to "brick" your phone. :-/

There's a post mentioning Brisbane & Sydney and the story there was that the employer only wanted to put the IMEI on the list of the company's assets.
So the response to "give us your IMEIs" should be "can I choose which brand of phone you're going to give me "
