Not that I recall. Didn't listen to the radio when I was younger, don't remember him on TOTP's and never really watched any of his programmes.

I fail to see how your question follows from the article. Evans wasn't just using the occasional catchphrase, but doing an impersonation of a vile and most unpleasant criminal. This is IMO unacceptable on a supposed respectable radio station. The sad thing is how many listeners this shallow unprincipled coward has.

the impersonation and catchphrases have been part of british life for 30 years - almost everyone over the age of 20 knows them - you cannot just pretend that he never existed.

i suppose it was a bit bad taste under the circumstances - but it wasnt as though he was supporting saville or doing anything crude - he was just saying catchphrases in a voice that must have been done thousands of times before.

Chris Evans being Chris Evans is not news. Don't think he sets out to cause controversy; it's just the way he is. His producer obviously thought that he was persisting too much, but once Evans is 'on a roll' he is hard to stop. Did anyone actually complain?

Like the idea of criminals having catchphrases: Jack the Ripper, "Nice to see you, to see you sliced" perhaps?
