We have just booked a holiday and said yes to the 15kg allowance, have just weighed 2 pairs of sandals nearly 2kgs! Have just reserved luggage that weighs 2.5kg. Any suggestions how we cope...we haven't been on holiday abroad for 7 years so out of touch!!!!

just take 15kg of clothes - how many pairs of shoes do you need anyway?
I take it you've booked with Ryan Air?? A lot of companies offer 20kg, but I know Ryan Air only allow 15kg. Thomson offer 20kg (I know this 'cos we flew with them just over a week ago).
One solution is to wear a jacket specially designed with lots of pockets, that allows you to wear your luggage.
It's called a Rufus Roo Jacket:

Most of these low cost airlines will charge you a fortune for being over your luggage limit. However Mrs Hymie & I have flown Ryanair (never again) and overcame this problem by booking extra luggage in advance; for a fairly reasonable price. You just need to check with the airline to see what their arrangements/fees are re extra hold luggage (one extra bag at 15kg should be enough).
Worrier....I usually fly Ryanair and check in 20kg with 10kg in my hand luggage. If you want to add to your 15kg you can do it, i think, up until four hours before the flight.

I wear layers of the heaviest clothes I will be taking on holiday and all my jewelry......that often sets off the alarm....but it's less weight in the case.
Have a look and see how much hand luggage you are allowed. Quite often you are allowed a good weight. So take some of your clothes in that. But please make sure you go be the airlines measurements as they may and quite often do check it before you board the plane. hope this helps.

Are you sure you've weighed your sandals correctly? From what you have said each sandal weighs ~1lb or 500g......that is one hell of a sandal!

15kg has never been a problem for me, even when I took a book for each day of my holiday.....kindles and iPads have done wonders for my back when travelling!
I booked with THomas Cook and it was also 15kg, you do have an option to pay a bit extra for more weight though. You can also fill a hand luggage case each, just check the weight limit.
As a regular holidaymaker I always take at least a third of a suitcase of stuff I never end up wearing. Be really ruthless. You don't need 2 pairs of sandals.
I regularly fly Ryanair and Easyjet. I have one of those really lightweight suitcases (like these http://www.matalan.co.uk/homeware/travel-essentials/suitcases-and-travel/s2519607/worlds-lightest-2-wheel-suitcase) and wear my heaviest clothes (heaviest sandals and a cardigan). The hand luggage allowance is usually 10kg so I pack all my books in there and some shoes/sandals if need be. I also take books that I will behind in the hotel library so that I can use that weight coming back for souvenirs etc. Mr Spudqueen has a Kindle. In fact we've just booked for this summer with Ryanair. I have booked a 20kg case and Mr Spudqueen will just be taking hand luggage, but that's 40kg between us. I will just make sure that I will take all the liquids (toiletries etc) in my case.
wear the heavy stuff on the plane? Kindle instead of books? One pair of sandals instead of two?

I've flew Ryanair 3 times in the last year and my case has never been weighed.
That's not correct for many airlines, hotelplus - easyJet only lets you take one bag on board, with limited dimensions, you can't take a handbag (or purse if you are in the US) as well - my handbag always goes inside my cabin bag until I get on the plane. One bag only, no extra bags for sandals!
Ryanair have started letting two bags on board. Previously it was only one bag regardless of the size of the second bag.

Now you can take a decent sized hand bag on board.
Prudie, we used to be like that - not any more, for our last holiday we took one 20kg checked bag between us. Result, only one suitcase charge!
