Wonky Chimney
We have a leak in my daughter's bedroom and got a roofer to look at hat we thought might be missing slates due to the weather.
It turns out it's the house next door chimney that's got a lovely lean on it and pulled the surrounding tiles which happen to be on our side.
The house next door is a rented property (now empty) however i managed to get the phone number of the owner.
Having just rang him to tell him his chimney needs looking at and fixing, he's point blank refused and slammed the phone down on me.
Where do i stand? There's obviously no way he's now going to answer his phone if i ring again, and we do not have an address for him.
thanks

You can get his name and address for a small fee (less than a fiver) from the Land Registry. It is downloadable so you'll get the information immediately/

192.com is good for finding people who live at an address and so are on the electoral role. No use at all for finding owners who live elsewhere.
You will have to claim on his insurance if he refuses to pay out of his pocket. It might be sensible to go through your own buildings insurance as they have the means of chasing it up.
In the first instance I would get his details from the Land Registry and send a letter by recorded post asking him to rectify the problem.

It must be a hell of a lean to have uprooted the tiles on your side, Boobs. To do that, it quite possible is unstable. Environmental Health (local council) would be the ones to contact..... on the grounds that it may be a hazard.
In extreme situations, especially when the owner refuses to do anything, EH can instigate repairs and bill him accordingly.
