Hi could anyone please give me an idea on where my ex and I stand over joint and solo property? There were items he bought for the house (in lieu of rent) like a sofa, TV etc. He now wants everyting that he bought returned. Is he entitled to it all? Do I have to just empty my home? I am seeking legal advice but that won't be until next week, I would just like an idea for now. Many thanks.

I think yes - he contributed those items to your home, so he's entitled to take them with him. That's what we did when I split up with my ex.
did you have a formal agreement that it was in lieu of rent?

if so it sounds like you joint purchased them.

i mean if me and a friend decided to club together to buy a fridge and freezer for our house, there would be little point in us both paying half the cost of each item individually with our cards, essentially creating 4 transactions, surely more feasible and simpler that we each put one on our cards.

it sounds like thats what you have done here - you paid the rent, physically from your account and he paid for the stuff physically from his account

you could perhaps ask him for the rent?
