My daughter purchased a brand new house 7 years ago and almost immediately, the property started to subside causing internal and external cracking. \the builder said at the outset he would have to wait to see how far the subsidence went. He has now offered to underpin the property and rebuild the affected outside walls and generally make good. They will haave to move out for at least four months while the work is completed.
My question is, is the builder under any legal obligation to offer to buy back the property instead of offering a repair which will put a permanent blight on the future sale of the house.
You need legal advice on this (which of course you may get on here) from a solicitor familiar with this sort of situation. Is it only your daughter's house that's affected, or is it several properties? Is it known what's causing the subsidence from seven years ago?
