A seventeen year old girl died in Kettering General Hospital following an appendectomy.

The hospital admitted responsibility for her death but refused to release details in case it caused mental upset for the staff involved! No compassion for the parents there then.

They have now had to release those details which show forty three mistakes in her care.....forty three.

Some of those mistakes are the same ones I formally complained about in 1997.
I still have, among many others, the letter of apology from the then hospital chief who admitted that those mistakes should never have occurred but procedures had been put in place to make sure they never happened again.
I didn't believe it then any more than I do now after the needless death of this poor lass.

The chances of me letting them near my ears with a scalpel under general anaesthetic are now nil......

2 cases on news earlier re swabs left in after child births
I understand Gness, it's more frightening than I ever imagined.
Lessons will be learnt........... :o/

I believe there was little communication right from the surgeon down to the last nurse who was supposed to be caring for her.....this was one of my complaints and the answer the doctor gave me was unbelievable.

Naomi.....how often have we heard that one.....
Exactly.
Dja have a ref / URL ?

I am indeed sorry to hear of this case. and 17 is young for a appendix death.

The fact that the Hospital hasnt released the details does not mean they havent told the parents and anyway there is always the coroner's court....

and Psybbo and Gmess it isnt that frightening
there are an amazing number of safe operations and anesthetics given in this country per year ( millions)

pp. there are an amazing amounts of ' errors '' being made . it isn't that frightening ? oh I think it is.

Peter.....the parent have behaved with amazing dignity....I don't think they were aware of all the details but I will have to look at the interview with the mother again.....and the coroner has given a verdict.
The hospital was trying to hide the enormity of their neglect.
Google Victoria Harrison/Kettering General Hospital and tell me their behaviour isn't disgusting.

And I have seen far too much go wrong at the hands of careless staff and bad hygiene to risk a procedure.

Thank you, Mamya....scary isn't it Peter.....so many "errors" in one case.
Tell me it isn't a couldn't care attitude....but I won't believe you for a minute.
These were all routine things that are part of the duty of care.
I have a story to tell about the NHS but I'm too tired to tell it now, maybe tomorrow. I feel for you Gness.

I bet you do, Jezza.....I could write the book but don't worry about me. My humour and my feisty nature got MrG and I a good few years together despite the best efforts of the NHS to bump him off many times.

It's harder to fight your own corner and protect yourself from them though which I why I'm going down the alternative route....if it doesn't work at least it's clean and safe...Best to Mic...xx
How sad Gness. Its very scary isn't it with the dreadful record of most of the hospitals around where you and I live. I could tell many tales about LRI, LGH and Queens Med even dating back to 1997 and apparently nothing has changed!

One day, Ann...When we have that coffee I will show you the letter I have from a renal consultant LGH that most certainly didn't go through their legal department....
It gave me more than enough evidence to take action against them....but it was such a sad letter really.
FEAT((Gness))HERS takes Gness into his heart. In warm embrace,There are no words. X

The hug's enough....thank you......♥
Even though I do not live in the UK I want to say something. The National Health Service, when you say it, is a thing or object: however, it is an evolved, over the years, system of ill people being cared for by people who care to minister to them. Forget the hospital buildings; and all the equipment and technology; and all the advances in medicine. We have to keep in mind that the major ingredient in health. care is people. And guess what? People make mistakes, accidents, misjudgments, incorrect assumptions etc.. And when these aforementioned incidents happen dire consequences can result. That’s life…and death: all there is to it.
Normally i would agree, stewey, but 43 mistakes? Enough to cause a teenager's death in what should be a straightforward operation. I haven't read mamya's link yet, but i will. Human error is sometimes inevitable, but this sounds more like negligence.
so very sad and it should not have happened. definitely it should not have happened.
