the law?
I don't really understand the question as it does not make grammatical sense anyway
Posting a question on the US legal system on a UK website probably isn't a great idea (because we do things very differently over here) but the answer you're looking for (together with al of the other ones you'll probably be wanting to know) is here:

a big stick and a lot of rope?
The saxophone?
'I would like to know the answer, please...' would be better
detention without trial ?

US is a still a common law system so basic questions should have the same answers ( ish)

what's wrong with 'I need the answer' ?
after all he's tellin' the truth !

and anyway he may know we are all OAPs with nothing better to do on our hands besides someone else's prep
you see in the C13 ( 1200s ) it would be exile or outlawry

exile was ended in England in 1215.
preventive detention?
PP does that mean you can still be outlawed?
Despite it probably being true (to a certain degree) what is wrong with stating one needs the answer is that it comes across as a demand rather than a polite request, and thus can offend. There are alternate ways to request help.
Just Google your own question (after inserting the missing word THEY) and you'll get the two word answer starting with S and C.
I need to know when you've done this
Apologies for my half answer, it should read saxophone and clarinet.
Sir ! Sir !

Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir!

yes I know.....So........Co.....

Peter, get over there by yourself!
Wiki says outlawry was abolished in 1939
I thought it was 1835 ( or 1851) when all the twizzly bits you get in US law went the way of the world ( grand juries, true bills, common informers, imprisonment for debt )
