I damaged a vehicle being parked on private property and am being charged for it. The lawyer says it is strange this is being brought to court and will try to get me out of it. If I offer to pay for damages with the intention of not paying because I don't have any money (the authorities can check my current and past bank records) what will happen to me?

If it goes to court and you are ordered by the court to pay and then do not pay the court will get an order for deductions to be made direct from your employment or benefit money. If you still do not pay the court will order bailiffs to seize your goods and sell them to pay. As a last resort the court can send you to jail for refusal to pay. Remember as I said in the original post, if this goes to court there will be court costs, compensation and probably a fine to pay as well.
If you just talk to the other guy and he accepts your offer to pay but then don't he can press charges again for criminal damage.

Remember a fine for criminal damage doesnt go to the injured party - it goes to the Crown
