Is there a hard and fast rule as to gated roads. Are these gates locked and if so is this legal? If they are not locked does that mean you can drive through as long as you close them again or are there different rules for different roads?
There is a place near where I come from called Bethesda, there is an old Roman road the runs parallel with the A5, when we use that road & it is part gated, If it's Closed, after passing through close it, if Open, it's left in the same way Imlost.
Yes I would leave the gates as I found them. Is there though any laws about them as in 'You are/are not allowed to use them', or perhaps different rules for different counties or councils?
Some of these gated roads are actually "Private" roads. The last pit I worked at the main road in was actually a private access road to the pit that continued past the pit to a training centre and then to a small village.Lots of the locals used the road as a short cut to the main road and used to moan like hell when the security barriers were closed at week ends but it did no good when it was closed off you didn't get through with out a pass.If I remember rightly it had to be closed so many times a year or it would revert to public usage.
No worries I'm not too good at the link thing myself. Strange it should show a pair of walking boots tho. The reason for the original question was for a group of people I know who are going hill walking but have just found out that where they drive to to meet is on a gated road.
Gotta go out now. Thanks for trying all of you.
