5yr old's email addy update
I went to the school this afternoon and had a word. Apparently our LEA automatically issues every single child with an email address when they start school, this is because by the end of Junior school they are expected to research some of their stuff online and it is so children without internet access at home aren't discriminated against. The email account isn't activated until the child is at least 11 years old and they NEVER EVER use email at the infant school. They offered to remove the addy from his school records but I couldn't see any point as it would stay on his LEA records and would probably cause more problems than it solves when he does eventually need it.
AND, regarding the SPAM etc issues, apparently their controls are so tight that the school is unable to access County Council websites outside Norfolk!
I trust the Headmistress completely and feel that, whilst it would have been nice for the LEA to inform parents that they are issuing email addys to 5 year olds, there is nothing to worry about (yet)!
