Disabled Parking

We have never found it nessasary until now but I enquired into a "Disabled Parking Bay" to be put outside our home,I have since been informed that our Council charge £3,600,to install and a similar amount to remove ,we live in a Cul de sac and untill recently the past 16 years we have been able to park directly outside of our specially adapted bungalow.
Due to a new neighbour for reasons known only to themselves using "Our parking space " we need to find a solution ,we have and have always had the backing of all in the Close hence the reason not to request a Disabled Bay .Basically we do not have the money for a "Bay" do any ABers have any sensible ideas.,Please we are desperate.

Well the first thing to do is have a chat with the neighbour.

All I can suggest is you talk to the neighbour and ask them to leave space for you. Even if you did get a disabled bay it would not be 'yours' it can be used by anyone with a disabled badge.

I am amazed they are charging you anything! We had ours free, with just a note from her GP. Also, I think you will find that anybody can park in the bay, the disabled sign is only advisory

Is this neighbour one of these arrogant ***? explain your needs & see if this can solve the issue, contact your benefits office to see if you can qualify for a Disabled spot, I am not disabled but have a slight issue with our neighbour, I never Drive into my drive but back in, he gives me little room for maneuver, you can't help ignorance & selfishness can you?

When you say install a 'Disabled Bay'... what do you mean ?
Lots of advice has been given, but you haven't actually described what you want.
Drop kerbs and cross a footpath ... or paint 'Disabled' on the tarmac.
If it's the former and it's your property £3600 sounds reasonable.
If it's the latter then it's well over the top.

The golden rule here is - don't upset someone who's co-operation you need - in this case, your neighbour.

Have a (very) polite chat with them about your situation, and ask if you can rely on their help (always better to make someone feel needed and helpful) by assisting you with your parking arrangements.

Hopefully, this will resolve matters.

The last thing you want is a war of attrition with your neighbours, they go nowhere, and make life really miserable.

Ok, we only had a bay marked out in paint with a disabled sign in it, but it was totally free! and no one parked in it except us.

we had a disabled parking marked out on the pavement outside the house, free of charge, all cars in the street were allowed to park on the pavement as we are on a bus route, when Chief Stout died [ 2 years ago today] I took the disabled badge back and blow me next day they came and painted it all out, didn't waste any time.

Andy Hughes We have lived here for 16 years no one in the Close has a problem,I have not spoken to the new neighbour regarding this subject ,I spoke when they first moved in and I welcomed them to the village and offered my help if they required finding anything around the village ,as for the Parking I did not feel it was correct for me to mention the parking as several other neighbours had already explained how the parking worked this has been the case for the past 16 years ,My condition is reasonably obvious as they have seen me using my Powered and Manual wheel chair ,surely it does not require a genius to work out the struggle my wife has to transfer me into our car .Re the Disabled Bay .for £3,600 Painted bay with Disabled sign no raised kerbs etc,then further £3,600 to remove..
I did wonder if a Grant was available to pay for this work to be carried out , many years ago it was free but we did not think it was necessary to have the Bay put in as we had such an amzing understanding with everyone ,times chang I suppose.

I am sure the first step is to have a polite conversation with the neighbour and explain that you need to park outside your house or you are stranded.
You say you have not spoken to them about this, well now is the time to do it.
Keep it polite and friendly and you may be surprised how well they react.
From what you say they probably just do not realise your situation, they may have seen the wheelchair but do not realise how the situation actually is and how difficult it is for you.

Sorry but legally, unless there are designated private bays , parking is a free for all, first come first served no such thing as ''our parking space''
So please talk calmly and politely to the neighbour and try to come to a mutually agreeable solution.
