There are a couple of BT phones that you could purchase, one blocks up to ten numbers, the more expensive ones a lot more. However I have found the Mantra 'this is a TPS registered number we do not speak to cold callers' has practically stopped them. Once they realise whatever they say, before they can finish the first word I repeat, myself they give up. Must decide I am not worth bothering with as they nhever seem to phone back.
Pickerton, we were getting call daily / nightly just after tea / watching the News etc, I'd had a bellyful of this, we are also on TPS but it's not much cop, I Purchased a BT Phone with call blocker, very easy to set up, that was about 3 Months ago, not one nuisance since, this is the only way around it.
I have found TPS to be a waste of time as cold callers still ring.
I have turned their phone calls into a form of personal entertainment. One of my favourite calls goes something like this ( you must remember not to let them get a word in)
Caller- Hello, is that Mrs Overall?
Me - Yes. I am so pleased you have rung. What time will you be collecting the body? You will need to bring some form of protective clothing as he is in a bit of a mess
There is usually a stunned silence, or they may announce they are from X company. I then say "You are the undertaker aren't you?" (said with a fake sob)
They usually apologise profusely and I never hear from them again

I do not believe BT pass the calling number to the intended call receiver for withheld numbers. That would hardly be "withheld". So any equipment you can buy must surely either allow them all, or bar them all. BT would know the number though, obviously, and be in a position to filter known nuisance ones out were they to choose to. I'd suspect the kit we can buy probably bars them all.
I have entered every number of family friends and businesses that I would expect to receive into my phone. They show up on caller display with both the number and the name of the caller. Any calls showing withheld or international unavailable or any number I dont recognise get disconnected immediately. If they need me they will call back. No body ever does
