Many councils etc are actually removing car parking spaces to encourage car sharing/public transport usage. (Though I bet that the bigwigs don't lose their places!)
Every work place is required by law to have a certain amount of car park spaces according to the size of the building which they serve. A warehouse might have twenty employees and have forty spaces due to its size. A same size office block might have 100 employees but still only have the required forty spaces. Generally, there are never enough spaces for eveyone. Beyond that requirement the employer is under no obligation.
No employer is legally obliged to provide staff parking places. I used to work for a bus company and had to park in the street outside the depot. Galling because even when there was no public transport [eg 4am and starting a dayshift] there was no option other than use the car. By 7am the depot was empty but the streets were full of drivers' cars!
Thanks folks, I thought as much. Skids, do you have any info/link for this info it may prove useful. My employer probably has over 20k people but only 3k spaces.
