A friends brother has received messages via txt and Facebook calling him a paedo and a wierdo pervert and hopes he doesn't bump into him. Hes ignored the messages but has asked if there is a law against sending these as there is no truth in it. I said id ask

I am not an expert but am wondering if these accusations constitute Libel/slander...in which case they are breaking the law... and if they are in the public domain then the accusations may well have an effect on how he perceived at work or in future employment. I think that it is also harassment .. and this is against the law. The victim here needs to keep all the messages and probably go to the police. I have no doubt someone more knowledge of this type of behaviour will respond soon

Harassment fits the bit and he should go down the nick with his phone and FB page

also Malicious Communications Act has reared its head again in the news and what might fit the bit - I thought it had ben repealed but obviously not

Thanks for your replies. He is ignoring it in the hope the idiot will get fed up and go away, but was just curious as to what could be the route should it continue. Thanks again, I will pass on your replies.

he can block people on facebook, and i suggest he changes his privacy settings so that only his friends can message him.

if he is on contract, phone the supplier and ask to change numbers. o2 let me do it last month, free of charge, even with my reply of 'too many work colleagues have my number and i want to enjoy a day off. If PAYG, ditch the sim and get a new one.
