I am a 68 year old retired Dutchman, having lived and worked in uk since
1969/. how do I go about getting ual nationality

You're probably eligible to acquire British citizenship by 'naturalisation':
https://www.gov.uk/becoming-a-british-citizen/check-if-you-can-apply

However, while the UK recognises 'dual citizenship', the Netherlands (in most cases) doesn't. If you acquire British citizenship you'll automatically lose your Dutch citizenship unless you lived in the UK for 5 years while still a minor (which, from your post, doesn't seem to be the case) or you've currently got a spouse/civil partner who holds British citizenship. (Under those limited circumstances you can have dual nationality).
I think you just fill out the form .....

my father naturalised in erm 1958 and renounced his first nationality and then about ten years later renewed his passport for his old nationality

didnt affect us tho
