was told the other day that when a 'scene' is marked out with this, it indicates a near-fatality or a fatality.

Was the guy having me on or is this true?

If true, explains a lot about what happened round the corner from me a few days ago.

No.
It's a 'crime scene' and they'll be wanting to preserve it to gather forensic evidence.......they'd certainly do it for near/fatalities but also rapes, assaults, robberies, etc.
The tape is used to define any crime scene or serious road accident.
^^^ It doesn't even have to be a crime scene. Police use the tape wherever they want to keep people away from something (which could simply be a wall in danger of collapse for some reason) or just to let people know that they're aware of something (e.g. putting it around a car that's ended up in a ditch, even though there were no injuries, simply as a way of saying that they know about it being there).

thanks both.

Man driving down-hill had heart attack and car collided with van going up.
Was really surprised at the amount of tape used and what was taped off.

Don't know yet if man survived his heart attack, no-one would get out of bed if they knew what was going to happen.
A lot of sites mention a significant difference when different colours are used - an urban myth perhaps?
That's sad Alba.

ooops, you weren't there Chris !! thank you too :-)

I'm thinking urban myth too Mamya, can you imagine how full their cars would have to be to tape off various scenes and then discover they'd used the wrong colour?

The only victim was the gentleman coming down the hill, still very sad tho
