Council Tax Query

I currently have the single occupancy discount on my council tax. My boyfriend doesn't live here but is here most of the time. He's otherwise at his parents as he gave up his own place. All post goes to his parents. There was some mix up with council arrears from his old place in that he and his dad have the same name and his dad ended up paying his arrears! Anyhow, this led to his dad telling the council boyfriend lives with me. Not strictly true as I've not asked him to move in and all he gives me money for is food (my choice).

So my question is, should I be paying full council tax even though he doesn't officially live here?

if his parents are paying the full rate council tax it wont make any difference to their bill if they say he is living there as apart from the single person discount you pay the same amount if two or more people are living in the same house.
So long as he has got a place to sleep at his parents and most of his stuff is there, i would say that he is still living there
Yes Peter I do.

How is it wrong if I voluntarily tell the council of something that's recently happened? Aren't I being honest by telling them?!

His parents live in a council house along with his brother so yes, I assume they are paying full council tax in any case so whether he's there or not won't make any difference?

He is paying whatever debts he has with the council. Like I said, the council got it wrong themselves by using the money his parents were paying for themselves, against his actual account. Not his fault. He's totally up to date with his payments so he's not being shifty! Parents were up to date with their payments too so no problem there!

Not sure why it's sounding like he's doing something wrong! Or I am! Or someone is!

To put things straight ... my boyfriend has been paying his council debt every month on time. It was the council who made a mistake with his dad - when his dad was making his OWN payments, the council applied that to the wrong account, i.e. my boyfriend's. That's all been rectified and no one was doing anything wrong - the council made the mistake.

His parents live in a council house along with his brother so I'm assuming they'll be paying full council tax anyway. Whether they added him to the list to say he was living there or not - I don't know and that's nothing to do with me.

As its only recently he's started studying more often and it looks to continue, I thought I'd ask the question. I have no problems with paying full whack, just wanted that clarified. Not sure why it wouldn't be in my best interests to tell the council - surely being honest and above board is the best policy? Or is there something I'm missing?

Just trying to do what's right!

Sorry for duplication of my replies - computer wasn't showing everything up, grrr!!
I don't think you're doing anything wrong, there will always be some who leap to the wrong conclusions.

See if you can find out what your Council's policy is regarding people staying over and how many nights constitute someone being seen as a permanent resident.

Similar happened to my Daughter years ago when her fiance stayed the occasional weekend.
I'm gonna graciously butt out of this
I know nothing of Council Tax
please tell us what happens ( in the end when it does [happen] )
how much it cost and who paid ....
