We hear day after day of people on their mobile phones, following cars weaving giving you the impression that the person is either popped up or texting, the techknowledgey they have today eg/ driverless cars, parking by sensors surely it's possible for the mobile to detect that the person using the phone is driving by his / her movements & to take action, or is this not possible?

I can't believe people do it.

I haven't used my phone while driving since it was made illegal except one time in a car park and it made me realise how bad my driving was when using the phone.

Speaking on the phone is bad enough....texting is much much worse.

Morn Ummmm, coming out of a place near us yesterday, this car was coming towards me weaving, on passing the girl was looking down & I presume Texting, If I was a nasty person I would have reported her.

One time I was on a bus and the bus driver was on the phone the whole time and I wish I'd reported him.

My boss is terrible for it...we're always arguing in the car...well...it tends to be me swearing at him and him telling me to calm down.

There's no excuse for it.

My phone is zipped in handbag but if curiosity gets the better of me, I pu.ll over somewhere safe & check the phone.....its usually my chatterbox dter warning me not to pick up hitch-hikers; jealousy ;)

Agree. I watched a commercial van turn right at the lights while the driver held a mobile phone conversation. He held the phone to his left ear with his right arm across his face while steering this sharp turn with the other hand. Surely he could get a handsfree set in his van?

I was going to report him but by the time I got to work I'd forgotten the name of the company. Damn.

Good idea in theory, but what about the car passengers, or people travelling on a bus, train etc .... how does it differentiate between the driver and passenger of the same car??

Hands free kits are very kits but it wont stop idiots texting - I saw a guy trying to use his phone turn a corner and probably change gear - I think he was using his knees - in a APV on a known bad corner. I wonder if anyones been prosecured based on dash cam footage.

Hi TWR, some modern cars won't let you use the gps etc while moving. Some allow you to access your phone through the car's controls, so I suppose those types could have their availability removed while the vehicle is moving.

Plus driving detection is no incentive for handset manufacturers to add and try to flog. It's a non-starter.

And no, I don't see how limb movements, even if they were detectable, could be interpreted with the necessary degree of accuracy. I guess you could get the mobile to ask if the user was driving and cut off if they say "yes" :-)

The techknowledgey is already available for you not to have to look at or even touch your phone to make/ receive texts and calls. OH is blind and just talks to his phone and it talks back.

I do make mistakes in spelling but still aims at the O.P., can they introduce a device? If the word "Techknowledgey" gets a smile, it may make someone's day.
