Is it illegal to send messages from someone else’s phone without their knowledge, giving the receiver the impression that the messages have been written by the owner of the phone?

Why am I not helping? It's an important consideration surely?
Maybe if you gave us all the facts, we could be more help i.e. What relation the recipient of the texts is to the husband and wife / the nature of the texts / the background to why he sent them.....
What she does about it is up to her. I'm simply asking, on her behalf, whether or not it is illegal.
This is not really a 'phone' problem. The couple are obviously having relationship problems and the phone messages are just part of that.
Bit pointless whether it's illegal or not if the wife isn't prepared to put up with the consequences if it is.
As I said, Yes it is illegal , but to do anything about it she needs to PROVE ! ( possibly to a judge and jury) the messages were not from her. I can't see a way she can do that unless the husband is willing to confess!
They might be having relationship problems - I have no idea - but if what he's doing is illegal, their relationship has no bearing on that.
It's illegal. Her question is answered. Thanks all.
yeah but no but
it depends on the facts ( content of messages )

if the message says something like Trump is not a good roman catholic then there is not much liability

but if Philip Mould ( he of antiques' roadshow ) is accused of trading insolvent and being a lothario - then the cat fur flies

Thanks again for your help, 1ozzy. It's very much appreciated.
It's not the phone's owner that is going to report it to the police - it is the recipient of the messages.
The phone owner will have to prove she didn't send them.
Adjusts dirty raincoat.......just one more ting......
