Rehab

has anyone on here been to or had a relative put into rehab for drug addiction, if so how did it go .I ask as we have put our son in rehab ,it's been a month now and things are looking good ,we visited last week and there was quite a change in him ,he was clean of drugs and clean in himself (hygiene was low on his agenda when he was taking drugs).keeping off drugs is going to be the big thing .

What form does the treatment take, Mallyh?

as far as I can see they get them off the drugs (he's done that )then they work with them to try and find out what causes them to take drugs and show them there is life after drugs ,it's intense and at times emotional .x

I imagine it's very difficult for them. Addiction is a terrible thing.

addiction is awful that's why when I see on here people saying marijuana is fine makes me want to scream ,as that was where he started .

Best of luck to you and your son. I've no experience of rehab in my family, thankfully.
I agree with you about cannabis. It makes me also want to scream when people say it's fine. It really isn't.

Do the rest of his immediate family get some sort of education or counselling ? It would help to know what you can do for your son that will help him. And what not to do also.

Any addiction must be really hard to break away from and to get clean and get your life back on track.

I've just seen your latest post Mallyh and I really feel for you. We've had a similar situation for years but the last 6 have been far the worse. My sister who has no other relatives turned from heroin to crack cocaine. She lost all sense of human decency and turned from a very smart attractive woman into an unkept filthy tramp living in squalid conditions, totally unrecognisable from the person she had been. Her only sense of purpose was to get money to fund her habit. She had lots of help from ourselves and the care community including rehab and lurched from giving us immense hope to sheer desperation. It's good that your son seems to be improving but I do advocate caution. I don't want to bring you down but a month is so short a time. Like us you must be worried sick about the situation. What we found was that whilst the addict has easy access to support there was none available for us. We didn't know what to do and eventually found online support groups but there may be some in your area. Make sure you look after yourself physically and mentally because you will need it to get through the coming weeks, months, years not just for you but also to support your son. My heart goes out to you and I sincerely wish you all the very best.
