My daughter 's second husband left her for another woman 3 months ago. In spite of several requests by her for him to remove all his belongings, he still has a room in the house used as a work shop, plus most of the space in the garage. If she gives him a one week ultimatum to remove everything, and he does not, is she within her rights to put it into storage herself, not releasing it to him until he pays her whatever it costs?

Are both names on the house deeds?
Do they jointly own the house?
When me & my ex broke up, I went to work abroad, and she ordered a skip & threw all my belongings out, which some were expensive, and sold all my camera equipment, worth about £3,000, and my antique guns.

you are not the only one I've heard this happen to trt.

My mate gave her ex 6 months to collect his stuff, (joint tenancy and she'd told ll that he had left)
He didn't, so she burnt his stuff.

I should have said that when my daughter married this man she was a widow, her husbands insurance paid off the mortgage, so the house is hers. His name is not on the deeds, or anything else relating to the house, all bills are still in her name.
send recorded delivery letter giving him 14 days to remove his property or it will be disposed of..keep copies...if he doesn't pitch up...after signing for it..then either sell or ditch...would not store...
am not a legal beagle, but after 3 months, if he hasn't made any contact then I'd see a lawyer to say that the soon-to-be-ex has abandoned his things and ask the lawyer to tell him that he has no right to his belongings
would not incur that expense Albs...14 days written notice would suffice...make it clear the goods will be disposed of NOT stored..he'll come running..if not..sell or ditch...
he has clearly abandoned his wife..the marital home and everything in it....your daughter is not a storage repository...
Always good to know Minty, thanks xx
(Not that I'm in a similar situation)

14 days is more than reasonable after 3 months imo
What I did ...lots of first edition books ..made a tidy sum..if only he'd left his golf clubs..that WOULD have hurt ! lol
plonkers get their just rewards Minty :-D xx
indeed !!
