I agreed interview charge & presented my files for perusal to solicitor. Solicitors estimated costs to take the case were too high & I told him I wouldnt continue. Ive asked for return of my files on payment of his fees but he refuses to return said files.
solicitor offered to scan files to me but I want originals. Is he entitled to keep my files ?

If they are documents that YOU provided to him, he cannot retain them and must return them. Once you have paid his bill he cannot operate a lien over your files. Refer him to the Law Society's Guidance Note on retention of client documentation. https://www.pearl-scan.co.uk/images/downloads/Law-Society-Guidelines.pdf
