No as long as you can operate the vehicle safely it's perfectly legal in the UK. I do it all the time.

Don't know about bare feet , but I know its illegal to drive in Spain wearing flip flops.

Although the RAC are correct on this topic, be very wary of taking their advice at face value. They speak of "myths" on their website. Well among the most classic of these myths which they maintain is that if you are caught with four defective tyres you can be fined £10,000 (about as likely as winning top prize on the the lottery two weeks in a row) and that you can receive twelve penalty points (completely incorrect).

I learnt to drive bare footed but my instructor insisted I wear shoes when I took my DrivingTest.

Safer to drive barefoot than in flip flops

One danger is you might be tempted to do gentle breaking just using your toes, when you only need to lose a little speed.

If at that moment you suddenly need to do an emergency brake, you can't easily apply enough pressure.

If you do drive barefoot, get in the habit of always putting the main part of your foot on the pedal.

I have car shoes which are basically a pair of loafers. No way ever would I drive bare footed. It would hurt.

Legal or not it's not a very bright thing to do, but that's people for you.

I keep a pair of unlaced trainers in the foot well for driving, if the weather is good I normally wear tottery heels or high heeled boots (I am only 5' tall) neither of which are good for driving. I have occasinally wandered into petrol station offices in the trainers, not a good look.

Well, I've seen a number of ****s (people) riding motorcycles with flip-flops, & shorts! Those will take care of themselves.
In a car bare feet & flip-flops could cause loss of control & injure someone else.
Remember, it's not all about you.
