i took my car into local garage for a fault. my garage man thought it was a +++++ so i said ok fit it (£400) but now its fitted it still got the same fault he wants to try something else, so should i be paying for the new part that he fitted when its not that whats at fault, i dont want to tackle him on that first that the case

No expert, but, well you did say, "ok". I guess you could ask him to put the old one back and only charge the labour. Perhaps discuss it with them ?
