My wife and I wish to proceed with an LPA for each of us. I've downloaded the documents and can see the initial costs for each of the document. Is this a job for a regular lawyer (expensive in London) or are there other specialists who deal in these matters who may be more economical to use? Must be thorough, not cheap and chearful!
It is money for old rope to pay a lawyer to do it. The forms have full notes with them. If you have online access, you can also do them online and keep coming back to check/re-check/amend until you are happy.
But if you go to a solicitor, go to a private client one who specialises in Court of Protection or Elderly.
We did ours ourselves online with no problems. It's worth trying because it will have cost you nothing if you do happen to think a solicitor would be best. Trying it yourself first will give you an idea of how you want the solicitor to set it up.
I would echo the view that the forms are easy to complete; that said, many years ago I completed the forms for my late mother to sign.
Once the forms were submitted, the Office of the Public Guardian pointed out an error. Rather than having to make a new submission, they allowed the forms to be amended and re-submitted – they were very helpful.
yes you can do it yourself and its quiet straight forward ,remember that you have to do 2 seperate lpa,s 1 for finance and 1 for health the cost for me when i did it for my wife about 8 years ago was approx £600 for both. remember also that you have to have them signed by someone such as doctor etc and as many as 30 odd signatures
The most it can cost for both LPAs is £164 if you do it yourself. If you earn less than £12k and/or on certain benefits you may be able to get a reduction.
