I notice my Post Office is advertising IDPs. I am driving through France,Belgium and The Netherlands in a few months time . What happens post 31st January. The web says we need !DP 1968 for France and Belgium but can still use our domestic Driving Licence. They confuse matters by saying 'if we leave with a deal' such and such or if 'No deal' something else.
Surely all should be the same as now until,at least, the transition period expires in December 20.
Green Card insurance is another consideration though that should be supplied freely by the insurance companies with, may be, an admin charge.
Anyone fully cognisant on any new documentation changes or additions we need with regard to driving abroad.? Thank you

Much obliged Mamyalynne. That link was far more clear than the Gov site and a few others I visited. Just the Green Card at the moment then unless there are changes before Dec 20.

Thank you Karl also.
As I read it . . .

You won't need an IDP for Belgium (unless your stay is for over 185 days) or for the Netherlands. You will require a 1968 IDP for France:

You will need a green card:

Chris
I read the 1968 IDP for France will apply if there is no deal post 31st Jan??
By chance I was looking at this only this afternoon, for me it confirms even with no deal we don't need an IDP for stays less than 9 months in Spain when hiring a car so I won't bother.
Minor inconveniences due to pet project coming to fruition.

Please ignore and rejoice as per previous guff.
If only the countries of Europe (including the UK) could form some sort of union, whereby there was mutual recognition of each other’s documentation (negating such bureaucracy) – I’m sure most UK citizens would vote in favour of such a scheme.
Indeed, Hymie, the only concrete stipulation from the UK (England) being a blue cover.

Essential in these unsettled times.

They might. So long as the scheme was not dependant on the UK forfeiting its right to make trade deals with other countries, or granting the right to 440m people to live and work here, or compels the UK to collect import duties on goods they may not prefer to charge duty on and submit 80% of that duty to Brussels, or agree to pay a foreign institution £10bn pa for the privilege. (I could go on).
I would have thought a cover in the tartan of one's choice should at least be an option, douglas. If the Radio Times can put out a different cover in each region...
I'll consult the Sporran Office, jno.
