Crime During Lockdown
4 Answers
I think the crime rate has plummeted during lockdown, fewer murders, stranger rapes, carjacking, abductions, burglaries, robberies. The traditional city centre weekend night brawls, drunkenness and disorderly behaviour has certainly stopped. Even less shoplifting, pick pockets and handbag snatchers.
Cyber crime such as scams and fraud has probably stayed the same or increased.
I have read that domestic violence has increased with fewer opportunities for victims to escape their abusers.
Does anyone have any statistics, facts or opinions from those in authority they could share on this subject? I would be very interested to read any relevant information.

Very interesting, thank you, Mamya. There is mention of the new crime of coughing but that is not much different from people claiming to have AIDS, HepB or other infectious disease, or infected syringes.
I do worry about children trapped at home where domestic violence occurs; I hope there are measures in place to provide some relief for them.

After spending many years getting regularly called out by the Police to domestic violence situations .. I can assure you the incident level always increased when we got to the first bank holiday. Often spending a few hours working within the victims premises, they would often tell me what had happened. It was usualy a similar pattern .. He as a rule, would come home from work and say he was off out with his mates for a drink. She would go off on one saying she never gets out and spends her life looking after kids. He would still want to go out and she didn't want him to go... after the eruption and possibly a few slaps. He would go out anyway and she would call the Police accusing him of assault. The Police then called me and I would go and put the damage right and change the locks.
Guaranteed domestic violence increase at bank holidays and whenever the weather was hot !
