We Are Not Doing So Badly
As, alas. there are a few idiots all too ready to make political capital out of an unforseen tragedy it would seem our current UK Government is managing quite well.
Whilst denigrating the efforts of those in power here there were many who held aloft South Korea as a shining example of how to eradicate this virus. Sadly it would appear that it is not yet all over for S. Korea and China are experiencing 4,000 new cases a day. So much for easing lock down in Wuhan. Have they jumped the gun? It is obvious that population density plays a great part as well as many other considerations but it demonstrates that no nation can feel smug or complacent as to how they have fared during this Global emergency.

Not sure where you are getting your figures from.
South Korea reported +40 new cases yesterday, and China +1.
Obviously these are self reported figures (like the UK) so they might be inaccurate. But 41 to 4000 is a massive discrepancy.

Not sure how you can twist that to the UK doing so much better than them.

I do apologise. I misread CHILE for China. It is rather immaterial as the basis of the thread is saying that it's not over yet and the toll is rising in certain areas particularly the Americas.

yes it is central - china you have the large post infectious population and whether it has generated carriers and what effect THEY will have - and whether they can re-infect ( second wave in same people) and this all feeds into Herd immnity - is it a myth
and Chile - prime meat hur hur hur - and the 'standard' model applies - both before ( large R number) and after ( low R number) lockdown.
Lockdown - if it reduces numbers as predicted, a decent proportion of AB are saying " there you are you see, the numbers change before your very eyes, and THAT alone shows modelling is crap"

I am not arguing the UK is doing any worse than Chile, but I don’t think you can say Chile are doing worse than us when they are clearly at a different earlier stage than we are. You cannot make a comparison yet.
