And I’ve said it in Brighton ? How annoying it is when in a shop items are reduced in price .The signed on the shelf clearly state this item is now say 2.99 reduced from Say 4.99 but when you get to the till and it’s scanned it comes up 4.99. You have to embarrass your self and the attendant by pointing this out . yes I hear you say the code was not changed but it should have been or else the item was not reduced at all . noticeable on one maybe two items but if you are getting 20 odd items you are not gonna notice you have been charged the wrong price and you have left the shop .You would think twice before you would go back to the shop for 2 pounds but if you were short 2 pounds you would not get the items . Rant over
// it's because shops are staffed by humans, who on occasion make mistakes.//
have you noticed
they are human but it always seem to be a mistake in favour of the shop....
not always. I used to shop at tesco when they always had a reduction if you bought six bottles of wine. One time as I was through the till, I looked at my receipt and couldn't see the 6 bottle reduction. The shop was busy so I went to the customer service and explained the problem...what I hadn't notice because I just looked at the till bottom line was that only two bottles out of the six had registered but CS noticed it. CS decision was that it was tesco's loss and lucky me. They were 6 decent bottles too.
I always put reduced or special offers through first and check what they ring up as, then it's easily queried and dealt with quickly while the rest goes through and you pack.
If it’s part of a chain then the computer error will be a ‘head office’ problem, if it’s short date reduction it might not have gone through the system yet and yes, people do make mistakes. Didn’t you make any mistakes throughout your working life? (I find the people who make the biggest fuss, rather than just pointing it out, look like complete tits.)

Not necessarily. It's very common to see different prices at different branches of supermarkets and not all offers are available at all branches, so at least some pricing is done locally.
woofy - and then they are put in manually, at least in some supermarkets. We challenged an offer in Iceland that we had received via email fom HO but the store didn't implement it. Different supermarkets will have different methods.
tesco don't do it locally. They get sent the shelf tags to print out and the tills are programmed centrally. Supervisors can override a programmed till price if they think its reasonable.
Our local Co-op store is notorious for the prices that are advertised on the shelves not coming up on the tills. At times that can apply to about one in three items. Most regular customers are fully aware of it though, with loads of people challenging the prices that they've been charged.
It works the other way too though. It's not unusual to be charged a discounted price based upon an offer that ended ages. It once took them over a year to notice that they'd forgotten about cancelling a 3-for-2 offer on bottled beers, which was only meant to run for a fortnight! I bought a lot of beer from the Co-op during that period ;-)
