10 Answers
Hi i am planning to move to a different County when restrictions are lifted. The online Housing List Application has on it a box you can tick if you have Mental Health Problems which i have. I wish to have a Housing Association Property. Should i tell them i have Mental Health issues? or will this HINDER my application? I already live in a Housing Association property and they do not know of my condition. Will telling them aaabout my condition put them off or will it help my application? Thanks.

You should ask your mental health team to write a letter in support of your application.
I got my sheltered housing flat because I suffer from depression and didn't have to go on a waiting list as flats were available.
Good luck

My neighbour was evicted from the house across the road from me by her private landlord. For a while it looked like she, and her young son, were going to end up homeless. However she got pushed to the top of a housing association's list because
(a) she was a single parent ; and
(b) she has mental health issues.
She's now living about four miles up the road from me, in a brand new bungalow, and very happy there.

I have already explained to you on your previous threads hat unless you have a close connection to the area you want to move to then it is highly unlikely that your housing association will move you to a county you have never even been to. Having a mental health condition will only assist you if you need to move to that area for highly specialised treatment not available in the area you live now. Moving house is recognised as being one of the most stressful and difficult times especially if it is a to a new area where you have no friends, family or support. Changing GPs is also very stressful for somebody with mental health needs unless your GP is unsympathetic and obstructive to your condition.
Housing associations are required by law to prioritise local people in need. They can only offer accommodation to people who live outside the area if they have local links to that area such as family already living there, or maybe a job in that area. Devon and Cornwall are suffering with a huge housing shortage, especially affordable and social housing. In Devon alone more than 100,000 people have been on social housing waiting lists for over 10 years.
Unless your housing association allows tenants to swap properties and you can find somebody who wants to live in your current home you may be more successful renting privately.
