I don't know how I found this video and the news story but my curiosity got the better of me, alas I am no further forward in understanding what happened.

The goalie scored a goal, but is he allowed to go so far out of his own goalposts? I have heard of something called 'offside' (which few females understand I am told) - would that have been a possibility.

I am now going to bed. The ******** birds outside are just starting their screaming for the day. Hopefully, I will be able to get some sleep as I am feeling like roadkill just now.

looks legit right enough, though i am no footie expert.
sorry you are not sleeping well, hopefully you can catch up a bit in the day.
Yeah, the gpalie can go anywhere on the pitch a normal player can, but he can only use his hands inside his own penalty area. We only ever had "stick" and "rush" goalies at school lol
Offside is something different. It's (without going into too much detail) a way to stop the forwards from just hanging round the goal to score. It means there must be two players between the attacking player and the goal line at the point a pass oes made to that attacker.
yep the goalie can go anywhere. Offside is a simple concept but sadly no female can comprehend it.
Yes the opposing goal keeper from either side can score, and that looks legit.

I gave up trying to explain the off side rule using a couple of pepperpots and a beer glass, my goodness she claimed to have undersood it. I think she just wanted me to shut up.
Tora exhibiting lazy sexism I’m afraid . If you want to see the assistant referee consistently getting the offside decisions right you would look no further than Sian Massey-Ellis. Her husband is also a referee, and far from being as good as her
Tora, most women can understand it. I'd guess the issue is that most couldn't give a flying fart about it.
Patronising old farts, girls play football now you know, they have the offside rule too, they also play rugby, and some of them are really rather good at it!
Rowan... Patronising old farts, girls play football now you know
I thought Chelsea mens team had some new signings, thanks for the heads up ;-)
Offside should be simple, but they've added all sorts of extra rules that mean probably even Tora doesn't fully understand.
Tell me about it Hopkirk... they change the rules week by week.
it was meant to be TIC, lighten up ladies please!
Law 11 is tweaked occasionally but what changes more often is the interpretation of certain aspects of it, usually what constitutes "interfering with play" for example.
I agree about Sian Massey-Ellis.
//...usually what constitutes "interfering with play" for example.//

As Bill Shankly once said, "If a player isn't interfering with play he shouldn't be on the pitch."
Was a great goal, any center forward would have been proud to score that one.
