Issue With Getting Aol Emails

My father-in-law has an issue with his AOL emails. Although he is still getting them through to his AOL app on his iphone, they stopped coming through to the Mail app on his phone back in May.
Similarly (or not?!) on his laptop he can get his emails by going to aol.com, but they also stopped coming through to his AOL mail programme on the laptop back in May.
So I'm looking for a bit of simple advice on how to fix the issue please.

Try deleting the account from the mail app and then recreate it.

Otherwise perhaps AOL has made changes to settings/access.

I had this problem a while ago with a note coming up "Cannot get mail, reset password" or something similar. If its the same problem, heres how to fix it.

Thanks Tuvok and sddsddean. Sounds like the same problem whereby it keeps asking for the password again and again.
It sounds like he should have done an update or similar back in May.
He seems happy enough that he can get his emails on his iphone usin the aol app, but what would be the best way to fix it on his laptop?

It may be the same issue - security/access feature - on the laptop.

What email program is he using on his laptop?

I will need to check that when I am next with him Tuvok. But i think he has an aol icon that he clicks on when he starts his laptop.
