I have two Christian (first) names, but since my mid 20s I have only used the middle one and in fact that is what I am known by professionally, but for my signature I use both initials and also for certain long-standing things like bank accounts.

I am in the process of writing out a will by hand and don't want this to create problems for my children, so should I write, say, ' I, Joe Fred Blogs ', and put, 'also known as', ' Fred Blogs ' ?

Is this kind of thing done?

Why not find a reputable solicitor in the UK who deals with German law?

I wouldn't even consider taking pot luck.
Khandro, I have no idea from where you have sought legal advice, but it sounds as if you've come across some charlatans.

Since 2015, it has become v easy for those who own property in Europe to make a Will which deals with all property with a (say) UK Will. It is not complicated or difficult. Unless your affairs are v complicated or some tax planning is needed, there is no reason why a local solicitor cannot draw up your Will for a few hundred quid.

Seek the advice of a specialist, ideally a STEP member (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).

Don't do it yourself. It's v easy to cock it up and it then costs your beneficiaries money to sort it out.
