I'm all for strikes as a last resort but am worried the union here are using the transport staff as political pawns...the employer as made an offer but union are claiming the government is stopping the employer from improving there offer even tho employer denies this

I was watching an interview on the picket line last night with mick Lynch, the union bossman. The look, the attitude, the message was straight out of the winter of discontent book of fables. Unions in essence do a tremendous job for their members, but if I was a rail worker today I would be ashamed of the actions and consequences of today's strike action.

The strike is about pensions and working practices that the employer wants to impose. The Union has balloted its members, who have rejected the new conditions.

union members have elected leaders to represent them. Do you want a referendum on every stage of negotiations? Do you apply the same principles to governments? Should we have a vote every time the government does something that wasn't in its election manifesto?

There can not be any rail strikes unless the Union membership has voted to strike.
As far as I can tell, the employers have not changed their offer, so the result of the ballots in June/July to reject the original offer are still valid.

The question is simple enough. If the employer/government offer a deal, the members should be balloted on whether to accept it. Otherwise it's in the hands of marxist union bosses who are driving their own agenda. Let us not forget the union leaders are not losing any wages by striking.
