yes, but when the will is probated it becomes pblic record and you can get a copy
The executor doesn't have to tell anyone except the beneficiaries. Even then one beneficiary doesn't have to be told of other bequests. There is no requirement for a formal reading of the Will and it doesn't really happen.

As bednobs says, anyone can access the Will after probate and can, if they wish, lodge a challenge within 6 months of probate
yeah you can apply now and they will tell you when it is probated.
Internet application, and you have to apply to the office that will get the will ( not that much of a problem -so for Manchester, 2.5 m people, it is Manchester probate dept).

done it - surprisingly successful (*)

Mega brayne Barmaid is around she may advise. the only people who can demand accounts are the residuary beneficiaries ( so they can check if the left-overs are all there)
BUT - or and
we had to do that, as the decd has said he had left Mr X something.
I was assisting
and we wrote to the solicitor ( who was not hiding, I admit)
and said Mr X wants his Y
and the solicitor as cool as a cucumber, replied
"Oh it has been given away!" stunning. He thought that was a satisfactory answer
OK I'll take cash....

so good luck
