Jimmy Anderson has announced he is to retire from test cricket after England's 1st test against the Windies this summer.

I'm not a cricket fan, but i am immensley proud of the fact that Burnley's Jimmy Anderson is the country's highest wicket-taking bowler of all time and the only seam-bowler to have taken 700 test wickets.

Age catches up with all of us, though, and i sincerely hope he enjoys his retirement.

I'm saddened to think he'll not be around, but he's had a tremendous, long innings. Brilliant bowler, but there comes a point when your body has had enough and it is time to think of your health.

I hero-worshipped Fred as a kid, still think he's unassailably the best in my estimation, but Anderson runs him a close second.  I also hope that he has a happy and long retirement.

Thanks, Jimmy, for all the thrills.

extraordinarily, his test average over the last five years - since he was 37 - is actually better than the previous 16 years. Most fast bowlers are dead before they reach 37.

Yes, an incredible bowler ... lucky to have seen him a few times playing live.

A fantastic cricketer, I too hope he enjoys his well-deserved retirement.

Jimmy Anderson will certainly be missed though:

It'll be interesting to see who, if anyone, can take his place:

sadly, Jofra Archer isn't on the list - a brilliant fast bowler until his captain foolishly bowled him into the ground, and now recovering from long-term injury. I don't see him ever playing in tests again. The current Bazball regime are much more protective of their bowlers, but too late for Archer.
