Thanks to all for previous answers, but I'm still struggling :-
1)Is a tusk regularly filled with strange bulges at the front? (8) S?L?E?T?
2) Remark's caught you shouldn't have to write down (6) N?T?T? Why is it NOTATE?
3)Taking up arms -- Gun before it recoils in long shot (9) R?V?L?I?G. Why is it REVOLTING?
