Iphone Screen Replacement

I've managed to drop my iPhone twice in recent weeks resulting in two cracks down it. It still works fine but I'd really like to get a new screen.

Question...has anyone had a new screen fitted to their iPhone? I'm considering having it done by a local place, not an Apple Store, that will do it for approx £50.
Is it safe? Will it last? Is it worth paying more to have it done at the Apple Store at a lot more cost?

Thanks

How old is the phone?
Recent model then I would go to Apple, older like 4 years plus then I would go the cheaper option.

Thanks for your answer DDI, I was hoping to hear from someone who's actually had their phone screen replaced though.

I use my local phone repair shop for replacement screens, ports etc and he does a great job at reasonable price.  I trust him - but I don't have an Apple phone.

If the Apple brand were important to me I would prefer an Apple repair.

Going to try the local screen replacement person first to see what they say. It's a fairly old iphon so I don't want to spend loads and then need to replace it anyway. I may yet just buy a new up to date iPhone. Still deliberating 🤔

Of course I will Barry, always get a quote first. And a visit to to the establishment to see how I feel about it.

I'm not sure what all the hesitation is, my OH got a new screen for his iphone from a reputable local repairer and was 100% happy. What is the issue?

Question Author

Just never done it before Prudie, and a bit unsure as to how successful it would be. Good to know your OH has been happy with his, that's reassuring 👍 Thanks.

One word of caution - if it's still under warranty (or Apple Care contract) then using a third party repairer may invalidate this.

Make sure to have a screen protector fitted on repaired on new phone. They really make a difference. Best is possibly Rhinoshield or even better a gel screen protector

Not still under warranty canary, so no issue with that, but thanks x

Always have a screen protector calmck, never dropped a phone before in all the years Ive owned one, but due to extra wobbly issues lately (me) phone dropped twice 🙄
