After a recent windows update (made by them  ... not me) I am unable to play music via my headphones or, in fact, get any sound at all.

Has this happened to anyone else and do you know how to fix it please?

I haven't - try updating the audio drivers.

Question Author

Did a scan and it reported audio drivers all up to date.

Can you roll back the drivers to an earlier date?

Question Author

1. Do you get sound from the PC speaker?

2. Win 11:  Press win-key + type sound and click mixer.  On the right hand side look for output ndevices.  There should be a drop down box, can you see the headphones there?

Win 10: Press win-key + type sound and click "Sound settings".  Can you see the device under output?

3.  Or if the headphones a bluetooth, has it lost the paring?

Question Author

No sound from the speakers either.

All headphone settings checked and seem ok.

Headphones not bluetooth.

I'm assuming you;'ve tried just rebooting the PC. How about reinstalling the drivers?

I took notes for future use. I hope this makes sense as you work through it.:

SPEAKERS NOT WORKING?

Test by connecting USB (if that is a sound source)direct to PC and not to a hub.

Test jack plug by touching contacts and hearing buzz. (If you have a jack to speakers)

Test for correct speaker choice. Left click speaker icon on task bar,( speaker icon bottom right)

at the end of the solid line, click =

Choose speakers

Test with YouTube for sound or click the button on the sound bar opened on task bar
