police and double standards

today in the tabloid newspaper, there was a picture of a police car parked outside starbucks on double yellow lines whilst they were getting a brew, whilst on duty. if it was any one of joe public, they would have got in trouble for this because the police are lazy and have nothing else to do.

why do they think they are above the law and superior to everyone else?

DOES ANYONE ELSE AGREE WITH ME??!

IS THERE ANY 'NICE' COPPERS ON HERE WHO CAN EXPLAIN WHY YOU'RE ALL BENT??!

Perks of the job I would say,2 minutes after parking illegally they might be facing some psycho with a gun,so a bit of poor parking is hardly a big issue !!!!

I see more police vehicles with defective lights in Glasgow, like several times a week or more, than I think I've ever noticed anywhere else.

I remember being lectured on the roadside once (stopped for a dud light) that an overall appraisal of the exterior of my car should be made including all lights before any journey is made, and was given a ticket.

15 years ago mind you, but still unbelievable !!

dan, no doubt it was an emergency vehicle. Therefore it has to respond quickly. Police are entitled to coffee breaks like everybody else but, unlike millions of people in offices etc, they ofetn have to leave the break early.

If they parked in an official car park, paid for the ticket, and walked to get their coffee, what would the papers say if a young lad had been kidnapped and it took the police 25 minutes to respond?

dan, have some common sense and give the boys in blue a break. I can assure you the people who knock them are the first to use them and cry when things don't go their way.

Are you saying the same about dust carts, recycling vehicles, milk floats, ambulances, delivery vans, the list is endless.
All just hoping they wont get caught. If they do, the offender is just as likely to get a ticket the same as ordinary members of the public.
The difference being that if the Police receive a ticket not only has it to be paid (unless on Police business) the driver of the vehicle has a lot of explaining to do to his Senior Officer.

dilligaf you are talking nonsense. Police are a response based unit that have to be out and about responding to members of the public. As wonderful as ambulance/fire/coast guard etc are they are station based reactive units.

It may come as a surprise to Ward-Minter but I do know what a RESPONSE vehicle is.
I was trying to emphasize everyone does it, I don't know any motorist who can honestly say they have not parked on a yellow line.
Despite this it is still illegal and every one takes a chance when they do it, even the police although they have a more ligitimate excuse.

Where I live in north London the police themselves would not bother to ticket a car on a single / double yellow line unles it was causing an obstruction.
Ticketing cars is left to traffic wardens who do not discriminate between private , police , commercial or any other type of vehicle. Lets pick on them!

ward-minter, this is only an example. i see them at least once a week, going through red lights, speeding, putting their lights/siren on just to get through traffic. its double standards. also have u seen them closing lanes at busy times on busy roads just to check peoples car tax is up to date? they've got nothing better to do. they should be out there catching sickos who mug and rape old people and murderers
