I Am Supposed To To What I Am Told

Hi, Would anybody know if there is a legal minimum size regulation for the warning signs of clamping in a private parking area. The reason I ask is because on Friday I had to pay 146.00 to release my car from a car clamping company in my home town. I was unaware of the parking regulations in the area, and it wasn't until it was pointed out to me, that there was a sign on the wall of a building next to the area.
The sign in question was about 10ft from the ground on a corner of one wall, the sign measured approx 5ins x 10ins, in my opinion this is too small and too high to see when seated in a car. Also the parking area is at the same level as the road with no raised curb or boundary around it. In my opinion this is a classic case of easy money for the clampers at the expense of unwary motorists.
I know that we all like to bleat on about car clamping, but fair's fair, give us a break.
I wish to contest this, can anyone tell me where I should start?

But be aware that they dont usually honour any reason why they were wrong in clamping you because they are a bunch tw@ts. Next time you get clamped make sure you have a foot pump in the boot, then: -
