Have had a leaflet through the door from this company saying government grants are now available for householders to insulate their house (Cavity or loft)They make the grant application on your behalf ,grants are paid direct to the contractor leaving the householder only the net balance to pay after work is completed.Example prices-2/3 bed semi 299 to pay.(same for loft or cavity) Do you think this is worth doing ?

I would advise getting quotes from 3 or 4 different Companies and letting each of them know that you are doing this, to ensure that the prices they are giving you are competitive. Also ask for references from other customers to make sure that the work will be done properly.
Most of the people in my street have had it done (cavity + loft insulation) and the company organised everything. Anybody who is in receipt of any benifit - child tax credit will do - or has a family member residing at home on benifit will qualify for a 100% grant. Yes it is well worth doing. However, if you are in a high rainfall area I would think twice about cavity insulation for all the well publicised reasons.
