red diesel

what is the difference between red diesel and kerosene(central heating oil)..will my generator run on kerosene??

kerosene is very much like petrol as in it has a very high flash point (catches fire easily) and diesel has a very low flashpoint -red or otherwise-and so is harder to burn but less explosive.i strongly recommend against using kerosene as it will more than likely go BANG.

does your generator run on diesel or petrol?red diesel is for agricultural use,(the red dye just distinguishes it for tax purposes.)never heard of a generator running on kerosene (paraffin).

I believe kerosene burns cleaner in whatever it is used for.

it would burn a bigger hole in the injector if it wasn't designed for the fuel specified .rendering it useless

kerosene is just a different name for paraffin

i made a mistake,,i should have asked what is the difference between red diesel and gas oil..have found out you get two types of oil for central heating..one is kerosene the other is gas oil..my heating uses gas oil.which i was told today by an oil company that red diesel,gas oil and marine fuel are all the same product.therefore i can use my central heating fuel safely in my generator as it is actually red diesel..and not in my car as someone suggested..such nasty thoughtssome people have.i would not do that??????????????????????????????????????

in that case, although its a couple of pence dearer I would use kerosene as it is the cleaner burner in a boiler.
