Unknown Car Accident -Third Party Claim
I just had my car insurance renewal notice and I was surprise to find that my No Claim Bonus had some how drop back to 3 years so I decided to phone my insurance company to check what's going on, they put me through Claims Department and explained to me there's a Third Party Claim against me.
Early this month I did received a letter from a personal injury solicitor firm, claiming I was involved in an accident 4 months ago which I just laugh it off and discard the letter aside and nearly shredded it because it's so ludicrous, even my car registration is incorrect on the document, but they somehow got hold of my address.
What really annoys me now is the inconvience of phoning other insurance companies for a renewal quote and have to explain that I only have 3 years NCB which it should be 6 years until my current insurer resolve this matter on my behalf, and of course this will affect my premium which should be lower than what it really is.
What I want to know is there anything I can do, perhaps seek independant advice and sue the claimant for causing this inconvience?

You haven't said whether this claim is proceeding or not. If it is you will be entitled to your full NCD as soon as it is cleared up and dismissed - in the meantime you pay what the insurance quotes you with 3yrs NCD and then you will be refunded at a later date. If it goes through and the claim is upheld against you then you have paid what is due and that's life . I don't know why you didn't contact the solicitors in the first place just to see how they got your information. It could be just a clerical error with the reg number but the solicitor would not have known this if you didn't let them know. I would never let any solicitors letters go unchallenged, just asking for trouble. Any inconvenience was caused by you by destroying the letter.
NORMANTHEDOG, I always shop around for cheaper quotes like many do annually.
auzzie, I felt so angry I nearly contacted the claimant's solicitor, but didn't, just as well because my insurer recommend I shouldn't. The letter was not destroy but left aside, now it's been sent to my insurer to deal with.
Even though they did correctly wrote down my car registration, I have very good grounds I was no where near the vicinty of the accident.
On the date of the accident I was happily at home doing my own things minding my own business, then all of a sudden some a**hole just pluck a car registration out of thin air which happens to coincide with mine or near to mine I get punish for it.
