Changed locks

A friend of mine left his wife. She now lives at the house on her own, Both names on mortgage. She has now gone and changed the locks to the house, If he gets into the house by breaking the locks, will he be breaking the law, as its his own house.

If the only issue is changed locks then no, but if he causes fear in his wife by breaking the locks then that could lead to other charges. It may be good to talk to the local police to go with him in case she has an issue about him coming in like that. At least they will be warned if they get a 999 from his wife.

You say both names are on the mortgage but are both names on the deeds?

I'd go with the above suggestion for him to have a chat with the police and maybe take legal advice, some firms do a free legal surgery.

Not sure if they are both on the deeds. He only wants to go in and get his belongings, but she's not willing for him to do so. He's still paying towards mortgage.

swansgal, if he's contributing to the mortgage then he should be intiteld to entry for his belongings,sugest to his ex that a mutual third party either be there or collects his stuff,failing all that vicars right take the police with him.good luck.
